The IICS, a groundbreaking initiative, operates under the aegis of the Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC), a body under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. It is notably chaired by the globally acclaimed, Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty, highlighting the institute’s commitment to excellence and industry relevance.
Borpujari’s induction places him alongside a distinguished roster of creative stalwarts. The advisory board boasts eminent personalities such as Girish Kasaravalli, Rahul Rawail, Shonali Bose, Dia Mirza, Neeta Lulla, Sham Kaushal, Kausar Munir, and Ravi K Chandran. His continuous engagement with premier institutions is further underscored by his current membership in the IIMC Society, the apex body of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication.
Backed by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) Academy, the IICS is set to offer a range of skill-based degree and certificate courses. These programmes will span diverse and in-demand fields including sound design, costume and makeup, animation, digital content creation, and media management, among others. The institute’s inaugural campus is slated to open in Delhi, with plans to establish nine more campuses across various locations in India, aiming for a pan-national reach.
Expressing his gratitude for the nomination, Borpujari called it a “privilege and honour,” specifically thanking Resul Pookutty for the opportunity. He passionately urged young aspirants, particularly those from the Northeast, to seize this unique chance. Borpujari emphasised that the initiative is strategically designed to equip the youth with essential skills, preparing them for promising careers in India’s burgeoning creative industry.
Admissions for select courses at IICS have already commenced, signaling the institute’s readiness to begin its transformative journey. The IICS pledges to provide comprehensive hands-on training, ensuring students benefit from direct engagement with experienced mentors and practical involvement in live projects, thereby bridging the gap between academia and industry.
