NPP Leaders’ Mass Defection Bolsters Congress in Nagaland

Kohima: At least 15 leaders from the National People’s Party (NPP) in Nagaland have defected to the Congress party. The leaders, led by Sudesh Bhagat and Jaser Meru, formally joined the Congress at a ceremony held at Congress Bhavan in Dimapur.

Prominent Congress leaders, including L Chuba Yimchunger, Javed Sarwar, and Kutoho Chishi, attended the induction ceremony. Javed Sarwar, chairman of the Minority Department, NPCC, welcomed the new members, acknowledging their past contributions and encouraging them to work towards strengthening the Congress party in Nagaland.

This mass defection is seen as a major blow to the NPP in the region. Former NPP General Secretary L Hiketo Shohe expressed his belief in the Congress party’s ethos and principles, citing the need for a drastic change in Nagaland’s politics.

The development is expected to significantly impact the political landscape of Nagaland, with the Congress party poised to gain strength in the region. This move may also have implications for future elections in the state.
