NRI Shot at Home in Punjab’s Amritsar, Sparking Outcry Over Law and Order
National Desk, August 24 — In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across Punjab, an NRI identified as Sukhchain Singh was shot by two assailants at his residence in Amritsar district on Saturday morning. The attack, captured on CCTV cameras inside the house, has been widely circulated on social media, drawing public outrage.
Sukhchain Singh, a resident of the United States, was assaulted by two men wearing turbans who entered his home and fired three shots at him. The harrowing footage shows Singh’s mother and son desperately pleading for mercy, only to be ignored by the attackers who shot Singh in the head and neck. His current condition remains uncertain as he undergoes treatment.
The Punjab police have assured that the perpetrators will be apprehended soon, according to media reports.
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Badal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who voiced his concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Sharing the video on social media, Badal expressed his deep distress over the state of affairs in Punjab.
“The law and order situation in Punjab has completely collapsed. It is disheartening to witness such incidents occurring under the current administration,” Badal stated. He further commented, “This morning, in Daburji, Sri Amritsar Sahib, armed miscreants brazenly fired shots after entering the home of our NRI brother Sukhchain Singh. Despite the desperate pleas of his mother and young son, the attackers showed no mercy. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, such incidents are becoming alarmingly frequent under your leadership. Punjabis no longer feel safe in their own homes.”
Badal also called for Chief Minister Mann’s resignation on moral grounds and extended prayers for Sukhchain Singh’s recovery.
The attack has heightened concerns about the safety of residents, including NRIs, in Punjab and has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of the current administration in maintaining law and order across the state.
