NRL Provides Lifeline to Remote Lampi with Long-Awaited Ambulance Donation

The isolated Lampi region of Boko has finally received a crucial boost to its healthcare infrastructure, as Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has generously donated a much-needed ambulance to the local community. This significant contribution addresses a long-standing healthcare void that has plagued the residents of this remote area for decades.

The handover of the ambulance represents the successful conclusion of years of determined efforts and appeals by the people of Lampi, who have tirelessly advocated for improved healthcare access since India gained independence. Their persistent demands have now been met with a tangible solution that promises to transform emergency medical response in the region.

This vital ambulance was secured through the collaborative efforts of the Assam Gorkha Development Council and the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union, highlighting the power of community advocacy in bringing essential services to underserved areas. The vehicle will serve as a critical lifeline, ensuring timely medical assistance for the residents of Lampi and surrounding areas.

Previously, the lack of adequate transportation meant that individuals requiring medical attention in Lampi faced arduous journeys of approximately 30 kilometers to reach the Boko Primary Health Centre for even basic medical care. These lengthy and often expensive trips, costing impoverished families between ₹4,000 and ₹6,000 per journey, frequently resulted in delays in receiving critical treatment.

The official distribution ceremony, held today in Lampi, was graced by the presence of prominent figures such as Sudip Pradhan, the Independent Director of Numaligarh Refinery Limited, and Prem Tamang, the Chief Executive Member of the Assam Gorkha Development Council. Leaders from the Gorkha Students’ Union and enthusiastic local villagers also attended the event.

Overwhelmed with relief and gratitude, community members celebrated the ambulance donation as a momentous stride towards enhancing healthcare accessibility and alleviating the hardships faced by rural inhabitants in the Chirseuj Paharia belt. The new ambulance symbolizes hope and a significant improvement in the quality of life for the residents of Lampi.
