NTPC to Train 40 Minors Under Girl Empowerment Mission in Assam
Guwahati: A four-week empowerment programme for disadvantaged girls in Assam has been launched by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited to teach 40 minors’ various skills.
The electricity company has been running the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) initiative since 2018 and launched it in Assam for the first time.
NTPC Executive Director (Bongaigaon Plant) Subrata Mandal announced the initiative on Tuesday and stated the company is running the programme in Assam for the first time to help the poor ladies.
“We’ve chosen 40 girls between the ages of 10 and 12 to move on. From the baseline survey to the medical checkup to the registration process, and finally to this campus, the exercise has come a long way, he said in a statement.
According to Mandal, NTPC launched GEM in 2018 and helped 4,500 disadvantaged girls in the area of its project locations across the country.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the Department of Education, the Kokrajhar district administration, and the Bodoland Territorial Council government for their support of NTPC Bongaigaon ever since the program’s conception.
The NTPC GEM programme will provide girls more self-confidence by educating them about fundamental health, education, and self-defense. Through this programme, NTPC hopes to assist these women in breaking down barriers and dispelling myths about female foeticide in rural areas.
The 40 girls will receive training in a variety of academics, life skills, and recreational activities like outdoor games, puppetry, and yoga over the course of the next four weeks at the NTPC facility in Salakati, Kokrajhar.
“The CSR initiative will ensure that the girl child grows into a well-rounded adult with ample curiosity and quality communication and social skills,” Mandal said.
