Itanagar: Nyeman Wangsu secured Arunachal Pradesh’s first gold medal at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, delivering a commanding performance in the Wushu Daoshu event on Thursday.

Her victory marks a historic hat-trick, as she claimed her third consecutive gold in the National Games, following her triumphs in Gujarat and Goa.

Adding to the state’s growing medal tally, fellow athletes Chera Loku and Yorna Rosni showcased their prowess, winning silver in Taijiquan and bronze in Nandao events, respectively.

Their achievements further cement Arunachal Pradesh’s rising dominance in the martial arts discipline.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to social media to celebrate the athletes, commending their dedication and contribution to the state’s sporting legacy. “Your dedication and hard work have brought pride to Arunachal Pradesh,” Khandu wrote, applauding Wangsu’s remarkable feat and encouraging other athletes to strive for excellence.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh’s badminton team made its debut at the National Games but faced an early exit after losses to Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, both by a score of 1-4.

Despite the setback, their participation marks a significant step forward for the state in competitive badminton.
