Guwahati: Rajesh Verma, an IAS officer from Odisha was appointed on Thursday to serve as Draupadi Murmu’s secretary.
IAS Verma was appointed by the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee.
A 1987-batch Odisha cadre IAS, Verma was serving as Secretary to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and will replace the incumbent Kapil Dev Tripathi, a 1980-batch IAS officer.
IAS Verma was Naveen Patnaik’s secretary when he was the chief minister of Odisha. Additionally, he served as the government of Odisha’s secretary for energy.
Odisha-born President Draupadi Murmu is a tribal person. She made history by becoming India’s second woman president and the country’s first tribal leader.
She is also the youngest President in history and the first born after Independence to assume the top constitutional position.
