Odisha Train Accident: PM Modi Visits Incident Site, Reviews Restoration Work
National Desk, 3 June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi assessed the situation at the scene of the tragic train accident on Saturday that took place in Balasore of Odisha. Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Dharmendra Pradhan, the minister of the union also joined PM Modi. He received a briefing on the circumstances behind the incident and the steps taken to address them.
According to reports, prime minister spoke to the health minister and cabinet secretary from the location. He requested that they see to it that the injured and their families get the necessary assistance. Additionally, he stated that extra care must be made to prevent any difficulty for the bereaved families and to continue providing the impacted with the relief they need.
Reportedly, he also went to the hospital where the injured persons are being treated.
Notably, several coaches of the 12864 Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express derailed and collapsed on a nearby track while travelling to Howrah. The derailed carriages were struck by the 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express which was travelling in the opposite direction on a similar track. A few Coromandel Express coaches lost control and collided with the third track’s halted freight train.
Over 900 people were injured and nearly 300 individuals lost their lives in the horrifying train catastrophe on Friday night. According to official records, the train accident which claimed the lives of four people occurred yesterday around 7 p.m. in the Balasore district roughly 250 kilometres south of Kolkata and 170 km north of Bhubaneswar.
