Old GU Ragging Case Comes To Light In Midst Of Uproar Over DU Ragging Incident

Guwahati: A similar but older incident of alleged ragging was reported from the Gauhati University (GU) has resurfaced in the days following the shocking ragging incident at the Dibrugarh University in Assam.

A student at the university’s RCC-3 Boys Hostel has accused some of his seniors of torturing him in the pretext of ragging.

The student has been identified as Hazrat Ali, hailing from Goalpara district.

According to reports, the incident occurred in March of this year. Hostel lads beat Ali after he disobeyed their commands, causing damage to his ear.

Ali claims that when he first arrived at the institution, his senior’s beat him up and continued to do so until he was in his fourth semester.

Speaking to media persons, Hazrat Ali said, “Since I started at Gauhati University in 2020, I have experienced violent attack. I didn’t discuss the incident earlier in my speech. However, after learning about the instances that are happening in other Assamese colleges and universities, I felt compelled to speak out about the difficulties I had while living at the university’s RCC-3 Boys Hostel.”

“My seniors frequently tortured me at night. My chamber used to be locked from outside. The severe attacks on me left one of my ears injured. I’m currently receiving treatment, and I’m recuperating gradually,” Ali added.

He allegedly received a request to leave the dorm and a farewell when Hazrat Ali concluded his fourth-semester exam.

He also asked the state government to investigate the matter and make sure that no one else would ever experience the same kind of torture that he did.
