Oldest Asiatic Elephant, Bijuli Prasad, Passes Away at 89
Guwahati, 21st August: In a poignant loss, Bijuli Prasad, recognized as the world’s oldest Asiatic elephant, breathed his last in the early hours of Monday. Hailing from the Behali Tea Estate of The Williamson Magor Group in Sonitpur district, Bijuli Prasad held the distinction of being the oldest domesticated elephant in Asia according to historical records.
At the time of his passing, the revered elephant was approximately 89 years old. Reports indicate that he succumbed to age-related complications, marking the end of a remarkable life that left an indelible mark on the region.
Bijuli Prasad’s legacy extended far beyond the estate or the group he was associated with; he was a living emblem of the entire locality. Originating from the Dikrai Tea Garden, he was brought to Borgang Tea Garden as a calf. Over time, he earned fame under the name Bijuli Prasad. Following the sale of Borgang Tea Garden, he found his home at the Behali Tea Estate, where he spent his days in the tranquil embrace of his surroundings.
As news of Bijuli Prasad’s passing spread, a multitude of individuals gathered to pay their final respects to this majestic pachyderm. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who held him dear and admired his enduring presence.
