Guwahati: In yet another rape case in the state, the Assam Police arrested one person over charges of alleged physical and psychological assault of a minor girl in Golaghat district of Assam.
According to reports, two men allegedly sexually attacked a minor girl who went into the forest to get firewood in Salmara Bagicha village of the district.
Following the incident, the victim’s family filed a complaint with the Golaghat police station, based on which the police took action.
Golaghat Police arrested one of the accused named Sabon in the case. Reportedly, Sabon had been taken in for questioning in the incident.
Meanwhile, the second accused identified as Nunu, is still on the run. However, officials assured that he will soon be behind bars.
During the preliminary investigation, it was learned that the two accused had bullied the victim into not disclosing the incident. They allegedly held a machete over her head to scare her.
Reportedly, the victim was too afraid to tell her family about the incident. the family stepped forward to file a complaint after a two-day delay.
It needs to be mentioned that investigation into the incident is underway and police officials have assured that justice will be served.
