One killed, four injured in IED blast in Manipur’s Thoubal

Guwahati: At least one person died and 4 others have been injured after a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast rocked at Thoubal district of Manipur on Sunday midnight.

The explosion reportedly took place at around 1:30 am inside the Community Hall at Sapam Mayai Leikai, Khongjom of the district.

According to reports, there were a few non-local personnel doing some work there.

Reportedly, the labourers were hired by water tank construction companies Koya and GCKC.

Following the incident, the five workers were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where one individual succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the deceased has been identified as Pankaj Mahato of West Bengal, and those injured have been identified as Aroop Mandal, Souvik Patra, Aporva Mandal, and Rajesh Ramaanik.

However, the area has been cordoned off for forensic inspection.

It needs to be mentioned that a case has been registered at the Khongjom police station for further investigation.
