Ontario honours AR Rahman by naming a street after the music meastro for the second time

Guwahati: The City of Markham in Ontario has named a street in honour of music legend A.R. Rahman.

Thanking the City of Markham and the Mayor of Markham, Frank Scarpitti for the honour, Rahman said, “Honoured and grateful for this recognition from @cityofmarkham and @frankscarpitti and the people of Canada.”

The name A.R. Rahman is not mine, he added. It denotes being kind. One can only be a servant of the merciful since mercy is a quality shared by the universal God whom we all worship. So may that name bring happiness, health, success, and peace to all Canadians. Godspeed to you all.

“I want to thank my brothers and sisters of India for all the affection,” he continued. All the creative people I collaborated with gave me the motivation to stand up and honour 100 years of film, with all its legends.

A street in Markham was given the name “Allah-Rakha Rahman st” earlier in 2013 in recognition of the renowned artist.
