Opposition Leaders Back Foreign Secretary, Call for Special Parliament Session to Honour Armed Forces

New Delhi: In a rare show of bipartisan sentiment, senior opposition leaders including Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav voiced strong support for Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and reiterated the demand for a special session of Parliament to honour the Indian armed forces following Operation Sindoor and the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

Gogoi defended Misri amid criticism from certain quarters, stating on X, “Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has done his duty impeccably. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to feel malice towards him. He has only conveyed the message that the political leadership of India has taken.”

Highlighting the importance of transparency and democratic discourse, Gogoi renewed the Congress party’s call for a special Parliament session. “Instead of social media platforms, every Indian deserves to witness a special session of Parliament so that their patriotism and aspirations are expressed in a truly democratic manner,” he added.

Echoing similar sentiments, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene a symbolic session to honour the armed forces’ bravery. “A special session of Parliament should be held so that, just as the Army has given a strong response to Pakistan, we, through Parliament and on behalf of the entire nation, can express our gratitude to the Army,” Yadav said.

Lauding the military’s decisive response, Yadav remarked, “The Indian Army has given a befitting reply to Pakistan. We are proud of them. The entire opposition stands with the government on the issue of national security.”

The joint chorus from opposition leaders underscores a growing demand for a united national stance in Parliament — both to celebrate the military’s valor and to address pressing national security concerns through structured debate.
