Opposition Leaders Demand PM Modi’s Intervention in Manipur Crisis at Jantar Mantar Protest
Leaders of opposition parties united at Jantar Mantar to criticize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handling of the prolonged unrest in Manipur and to demand immediate accountability from the government. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh and CPI leader D Raja led the charge, calling for decisive action, including the resignation of Manipur’s Chief Minister and PM Modi’s direct involvement in resolving the crisis.
Jairam Ramesh, representing the INDIA alliance, highlighted the coalition’s demand for PM Modi to personally address the turmoil. “The Prime Minister, who frequently travels abroad, has not visited Manipur even after 18 months of unrest. The Chief Minister has failed to restore peace. We demand his resignation, and the PM must break his silence, visit Manipur, and empathize with the people’s pain,” Ramesh said.
CPI leader D Raja criticized the government for its lack of urgency and questioned its commitment to national integrity. “The BJP claims to put ‘nation first,’ but is Manipur not part of the nation? Why is the PM silent? Why is there no parliamentary debate on Manipur? The people are suffering while the state remains in turmoil. The Chief Minister must step down for failing to bring peace,” Raja asserted.
The gathering at Jantar Mantar underscored the growing political pressure on the BJP-led government to take meaningful steps toward resolving the Manipur crisis, which has seen continued unrest and hardship for its citizens. Opposition leaders vowed to keep pressing for accountability until concrete actions are taken.
