Opposition’s VP Candidate Margaret Alva Files Nomination

Guwahati: Joint opposition candidate for the vice-presidential election Margaret Alva submitted her paperwork on Tuesday.

Alva was joined by other party officials from different factions during the nomination process. She filed her nomination in front of a number of opposition figures, including Rahul Gandhi of the Congress, Sharad Pawar of the NCP, Mallikarjun Kharge of the Rajya Sabha, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Congress.

Meanwhile, Margaret Alva took to twitter to thank all leaders of the opposition.

She wrote, “I’m grateful to all the leaders of the opposition who stood with me in solidarity when I filed my nomination as a candidate for the post of VP. I will be reaching out personally to every opposition party, no matter how big or small, to forge a common front for this election.”

Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena, Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, Tiruchi Siva of the DMK, Sitaram Yechury of the CPI-M, D Raja of the CPI, and Vaiko of the MDMK were also present when the nomination was filed.

On August 6, voting will be held for India’s next vice president, and that day will also see the results announced.

Alva is competing against Jagdeep Dhankhar of the NDA, who resigned as governor of West Bengal after being nominated on Saturday evening.
