Outgoing DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta: Will Always Salute Assam Police

Guwahati: The departing Director General of Police (DGP) in Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta expressed his gratitude for the Assam Police on Tuesday and asked for the next DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh to have his full support.

The former Special DGP of Assam, Gyanendra Pratap Singh will take over as the new on Tuesday when Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta’s term comes to an end.

The newly appointed DGP GP Singh will take his oath of office at the Assam Police Headquarters in Ulubari of Guwahati today at approximately 4:30 pm. He assumed control after Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta retired from service.

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta inaugurated a brand-new police restroom on his final day of work. A restroom has been built for police officers of lower ranks who travel to Guwahati from other parts of Assam for work or medical reasons. They find housing to be an issue in this area, and they will have access to this restroom.

A farewell parade was organized for the retiring DGP Mahanta at 9 am today. The departing DGP praised each police officer who participated in the procession after it was over.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said, “For every police personnel, it is not a job but a service. I will always salute Assam Police.”

Talking about the newly appointed DGP GP Singh, Mahanta said, “I have held talks with him over the problems faced by our state and how to solve them. It was a momentous occasion when I met with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and we developed a good understanding and it worked in the benefit of Assam.”

He further said, “Like Telangana Police, Assam Police will also be the best force in the nation. No one will be able to stop us. In my term as the DGP, I have always tried to better our force in the technical aspects.”

The outgoing DGP remembered all personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. He said, “My respect and regards to all police personnel who died while serving for Assam Police.”

“The new DGP also has a similar vision to serve the people of the state. My request to every police personnel is to support your new DGP in every way possible,” he mentioned.

He concluded by expressing his gratitude to the state’s citizens and to all members of the media for the chance to serve them.

The future plans for the retired DGP were discussed with Srijani Bhasya Mahanata, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta’s daughter. She claimed that after relinquishing his duties, her father would spend his free time farming, viewing and producing movies, and engaging in cultural activities.

Courted by reporters on there, his wife said, “I have 30 years of experience with him and have seen him through ups and downs during his job life. I am a little sad today on his retirement. He always worked towards the improvement of Assam Police.”
