Outrage in Manipur as Bodies of Abductees and Militants Retrieved Amid Rising Tensions

Imphal: In a series of developments adding to the turmoil in Manipur, the bodies of six abductees, including three women and three children, were recovered near the Assam-Manipur border and brought to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examinations on November 16.

The victims, believed to have been abducted by armed militants from Jiribam district, were found by Assam Rifles personnel, igniting widespread anger across Manipur’s valley districts.

Grieving families have demanded the immediate return of the bodies for last rites, as public outrage mounts over the escalating violence in the state. The tragic discovery has deepened concerns about the deteriorating security situation, especially with the involvement of women and children in such brutal acts.

In a related development, the bodies of 10 suspected militants, killed in a November 11 gunfight with the CRPF in Jiribam, were handed over to representatives of the Hmar community and protesting students. Sources confirmed the bodies will be transported to the Masimpur Military base before being airlifted to Churachandpur, Manipur.

Tensions flared outside the Silchar Medical College morgue as members of the Hmar and Kuki communities clashed with police while demanding the militants’ bodies for post-mortem examinations. The incident underscores the volatile ethnic dynamics in the region, with protests and unrest further complicating efforts to restore peace.

Authorities are now under pressure to address the security concerns and prevent further escalation, as communities grapple with grief, anger, and mistrust.
