Over 550 Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants Detained in Gujarat in Major Crackdown

Ahmedabad/Surat — In one of the largest coordinated crackdowns against illegal immigration in recent times, Gujarat Police detained more than 550 Bangladeshi nationals from Ahmedabad and Surat for allegedly residing in India using forged documentation. The large-scale operations, which unfolded through the night and early morning hours, were conducted under the direction of senior state authorities including the Home Minister, Director General of Police, and the Commissioners of both cities.

In Surat, an overnight combing operation led by the Special Operations Group (SOG) resulted in the detention of over 100 individuals. Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajdeep Singh Nakum confirmed that the detainees had illegally entered the country and were found living with counterfeit documents. “Once the identities are verified through interrogation, deportation procedures will begin,” Nakum stated.

Simultaneously, more than 450 illegal immigrants were detained from Ahmedabad during a parallel operation launched around 3 AM. The Ahmedabad Crime Branch, in coordination with the SOG, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Zone 6, and other local units, executed a swift and targeted sweep based on intelligence inputs pointing to a dense concentration of undocumented migrants in the Handola area. DCP Ajit Rajian confirmed the scale of the detentions, while Joint Commissioner of Police Sharad Singhal emphasized that the entire operation was intelligence-driven and carefully coordinated.

Officials from various law enforcement wings including the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB), and local police stations contributed to the statewide effort. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to continuing such operations, stressing that the action is vital for preserving internal security and upholding the integrity of national documentation systems.
