Padma Lakshmi Appointed as Kerela’s First Transgender Lawyer

Guwahati: Padma Lakshmi has been chosen as Kerela’s first transgender advocate. She registered with the Kerala Bar Council to become an advocate on Sunday.

Lakshmi was one of almost 1500 recent graduates of law who were accepted as advocate on the Kerela Bar Council’s lists.

The law minister for Kerela P. Rajeev personally complimented her on the achievement.

The minister acknowledged the struggle of Lakshmi and praised her through an Instagram post. He wrote, “Congratulations to Padma Lakshmi who overcame all the hurdles of life and enrolled as the first transgender advocate in Kerala. Becoming the first is always the hardest achievement in history. There are no predecessors on the way to the goal. Obstacles will be inevitable. There will be people to mute and discourage. Padma Lakshmi has written her name in the legal history by overcoming all this.”

The minister stated his wish that more members of the transgender community will be motivated to imitate Lakshmi’s actions by her story.
