Padma Shri Honor for Mizoram’s ‘Saint of Compassion’ Sangthankima
Northeast Desk, 26th January: Sangthankima, a dedicated social worker from Aizawl, Mizoram, has been bestowed with the esteemed Padma Shri award at the age of 63, recognized for his outstanding contributions in the category of Social Work (Children).
Known as the ‘Saint of Compassion’ in Mizoram, Sangthankima has played a pivotal role in leading Mizoram’s largest orphanage, the “Thutak Nunpuitu Team,” for over three decades. His advocacy spans children’s welfare, addiction rehabilitation, HIV-AIDS awareness, education, and various civic issues.
At the heart of Sangthankima’s impactful work is his unwavering commitment to providing shelter and rehabilitation services to society’s most vulnerable members. Under his guidance, the orphanage has evolved into a haven for orphans, divyang children, drug addicts, and alcoholics, offering not just shelter but also an opportunity for a renewed and dignified life.
Sangthankima’s compassion transcends Mizoram’s borders, as he has extensively worked for North Eastern communities and Burmese nationals. His rehabilitation centers, strategically located across four districts of Assam, have played a vital role in providing crucial support to those in need, earning him recognition as a true humanitarian.
