Padma Shri Recognition for Nagaland’s Social Crusader Sano Vamuzo
Northeast Desk, 26th January: Sano Vamuzo, a distinguished social worker from Nagaland, has been honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award in the social work category, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to the field of social work.
Hailing from the state capital Kohima, Vamuzo earned the accolade for her commendable service, particularly in spearheading campaigns promoting peace and advocating for enhanced women’s representation in Nagaland. At 83 years old, she has been a trailblazer as the first president of the Naga Mother’s Association (NMA), a prominent women’s organization in Nagaland.
Following the announcement of Vamuzo’s well-deserved recognition, congratulatory messages flooded in. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed his congratulations on social media, praising her for the great honor and wishing her good health and a long life in the service of the people.
Vamuzo’s remarkable journey includes not only being the inaugural president of the NMA but also the first chairperson of the Nagaland State Commission for Women. With a career spanning over 40 years, she has tirelessly worked in various capacities, championing the causes of peace and child empowerment.
