Parimal Suklabaidya inaugurates Saraighat Fish Market in Guwahati’s Lokhra
Guwahati: The Saraighat Wholesale Fish Market at Lokhra in Guwahati was officially inaugurated by the Fisheries Minister Parimal Suklabaidya on Thursday.
The newly operating wholesale fish market would make it easier for different species of fish to be sold directly by fish farmers to retail establishments throughout Guwahati.
Minister Suklabaidya also dedicated a live fish tank and weighing device on the fish market campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Suklabaidya congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the “Pradhan Mantri Matysa Sampada Yojana,” a programme that has greatly benefited fish farmers all throughout the country, including those in Assam. Since the BJP took control of the state administration, fish production in Assam has increased significantly, he quipped.
The minister also discussed the full entry of local fish into all markets as part of his ambitious strategy to move the state toward a healthy fish consumption state and promote everyone’s health. He emphasised the value of adopting hygienic and scientific methods in fish farming.
