Parliament Monsoon Session 2022 begins today
Guwahati: The Centre is likely to announce approximately 24 bills at the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament which will begin at 11 am on Monday.
While the Opposition has outlined 16 topics for consideration during the monsoon session, including the Agnipath scheme, rising prices, and unchecked inflation.
The Weapons of Mass Destruction and Their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Amendment Bill, 2022, will reportedly be discussed on the opening day of the monsoon session today.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated in a press briefing prior to the monsoon session that the discussion in the Parliament should be open-minded and there should be a debate if necessary. All MPs were urged to give it serious thought by the prime minister.
Modi said, “This session is significant because elections are currently being held for the offices of President and Vice President. The presidential election is being voted on today.”
“This is also the period of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. There is a special significance of August 15 this year as the nation would celebrate 100 years of independence,” he further said.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged the lawmakers to engage in substantive conversation on public-interest issues prior to the start of the legislative session.
Notably, the Monsoon Session is of utmost significance because it is when the President and Vice-President will be chosen.
Parliament’s monsoon session will end on August 12.
