Parliament Turmoil Leads to Suspension of 31 Opposition MPs for Remainder of Winter Session

National Desk, 18th December: During the Winter Session, 31 opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) faced suspension from the Lok Sabha due to persistent disruptions in the House. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi announced the decision, citing the continuous disruptions and the recent Parliament security breach on December 13 as the reasons behind the drastic measure.

Key figures among the suspended MPs include Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, TR Balu, and Daya Nidhi Maran. The proposal for suspension was presented by Minister Prahlad Joshi in response to the disruptive conduct of the MPs.

The suspension followed intense protests by opposition members, leading to the adjournment of the Lok Sabha for the day and reflecting the escalating tensions within the parliamentary chambers.

This disciplinary action is not an isolated incident during the current session. On December 14, a day after the initial security breach, 13 Lok Sabha MPs and one Rajya Sabha MP faced suspension for what was described as “unruly conduct” in Parliament.

Among the suspended Lok Sabha members are Manickam Tagore, Kanimozhi, PR Natrajan, VK Sreekandan, Benny Bahanan, K Subramanyam, S Venkatesan, and Mohammad Jawed. Trinamool Congress’s Derek O’Brien is the sole MP suspended from the Rajya Sabha.
