Parliamentary Protest by Opposition MPs Over Adani Issue

Guwahati: Opposition MPs demonstrated in front of the Gandhi statue in the Capital building and demanded that the Adani controversy be investigated by the Joint Parliamentary Committee or under the supervision of the Supreme Court on Monday.

Following a protest by opposition lawmakers in Parliament calling for a discussion on the matter, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were both suspended until 2 PM, according to a PTI report.

After activist short-seller Hindenburg Research, located in the US, published a long list of accusations against the Gautam Adani-led business, including illegal transactions and share price manipulation, shares of the Adani group have fallen significantly on the exchanges.

Due to public sector investments made in them by LIC and SBI, the opposition parties claim that the collapse in the value of the shares of the Adani Group is a swindle involving the money of regular people.

The report claimed that the Adani group has maintained that it complies with all laws and disclosure obligations.

Following a meeting on Monday morning to plan their common strategy in the House about the Adani issue, several opposition parties protested.

The Congress, the DMK, the NCP, the BRS, the JDU, the SP, the CPM, the CPI, the JMM, the RLD, the RSP, the AAP, the IUML, the RJD, and the Shiv Sena were among the parties that attended the meeting that was held in Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge’s chamber.

Members of the Trinamool Congress did not attend the opposition leaders’ meeting but they did participate in their protest in front of the Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex.

Raising slogans, opposition MPs held a banner that read “we demand JPC or SC monitored probe on Adani scandal”. They also held posters and placards demanding JPC and saving public money of LIC, SBI invested in the Adani group.

“We demand a discussion on our notices, we are ready for a detailed discussion. We want the Adani issue to be taken up first,” According to Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, the opposition is prepared to speak on the President’s Address.

He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must respond to the opposition’s first demand.
