Pawan Khera Slams Assam Govt Over Reetam Singh’s Arrest, Warns CM Sarma

Guwahati: Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera launched a sharp attack on the Assam government following the arrest of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) spokesperson Reetam Singh, likening the situation to past instances where Congress leaders faced police action in the state.

“This reminds us of how various Congress leaders, including myself, have suffered at the hands of the Assam police,” Khera remarked, accusing the government of misusing law enforcement for political vendettas.

Issuing a direct warning to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Khera stated, “The CM should remember that his tenure is not permanent. One day, he too will sit in the opposition—how will he safeguard his own rights if he continues to violate ours? No number of Himanta Biswa Sarmas can intimidate Gaurav Gogoi.”

Khera also addressed the ongoing delimitation issue, reaffirming the Congress party’s stance that states which have successfully improved social indicators and controlled population growth should not be penalized by losing Lok Sabha seats. His remarks have further intensified the political debate surrounding governance and electoral policies in Assam.
