Personal Secretary to Delhi CM Detained Over Assault Allegations

National Desk, 18th May: Bibhav Kumar, the former Personal Secretary (PS) to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has been detained by Delhi Police following allegations of assault made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal. The incident occurred on May 13, when Maliwal, a prominent AAP leader and former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, claimed she was assaulted at the Chief Minister’s residence by Kumar, a close aide to Kejriwal.

Maliwal reportedly made a distress call around 10 am from the Chief Minister’s residence, which prompted a swift response from the Delhi Police. They arrived at the scene and subsequently detained Kumar.

This development follows Kumar’s recent termination by the Delhi Vigilance Department from his position as Kejriwal’s personal secretary, due to an “illegal appointment” linked to a 2007 case involving assault and obstruction of a public servant from performing their duties.

The allegations and Kumar’s detention have intensified political tensions around AAP. Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP’s IT cell, highlighted Maliwal’s previous silence regarding Kejriwal’s arrest, noting, “AAP RS MP and former DCW chief Swati Maliwal alleges that Delhi CM’s PA assaulted her. The call was made from Delhi CM’s House. Remember, Swati Maliwal had maintained radio silence on Kejriwal’s arrest. She was, in fact, not even in India at that time and didn’t return for a long time,” as posted on X.

This unfolding situation continues to raise questions about the internal dynamics of the AAP and its leadership.
