PM Inaugurates Pragati Maidan Transit Corridor Project In Delhi

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor Project’s main tunnel and five underpasses in New Delhi on Sunday.

The Integrated Transit Corridor is a key component of the Pragati Maidan Redevelopment Project, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The Integrated Transit Corridor was created at a cost of more than 920 crore, with the central government funding the entire project.

According to a PMO statement, the goal is to enable hassle-free and smooth access to the new world-class exhibition and conference centre being built at Pragati Maidan, hence encouraging convenient participation of exhibitors and visitors in the programmes held there.

It would also ensure smooth vehicular flow, saving commuters a significant amount of time and money. It is part of the government’s broader ambition to improve people’s quality of life by improving urban infrastructure.

Ring Road and India Gate are connected by the main tunnel, which runs through Pragati Maidan and Purana Qila Road. The six-lane divided tunnel serves a variety of uses including providing access to Pragati Maidan’s massive subterranean parking garage. Two cross tunnels have been built beneath the main tunnel road to assist traffic passage from either side of the parking lot which is a unique feature of the Tunnel.

It is equipped with the most up-to-date global standards for traffic flow, including smart fire management, modern ventilation and automated drainage, digitally controlled CCTV, and a public announcement system inside the tunnel.  This long-awaited tunnel will provide an alternative route to Bhairon Marg, which is currently overburdened, and is estimated to transport more than half of Bhairon Marg’s traffic.

There will be six underpasses, four on Mathura Road, one on Bhairon Marg, and one at the intersection of Ring Road and Bhairon Marg, in addition to the tunnel.
