PM Modi Announces Ex-Gratia for Dergaon Bus Accident Victims

Guwahati, 3rd Jan: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic bus accident in Dergaon, Assam, and announced an ex-gratia relief measure.

In a tweet, PM Modi conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. He stated that ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, and Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured.

“Pained by the loss of lives due to a road mishap in Golaghat, Assam. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” the tweet from PM Modi reads.

Assam Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, deeply shocked by the incident, ordered a thorough investigation and assured full financial assistance to the families of the deceased and medical support for the injured.

Suklabaidya pledged that the main culprit would be held accountable, and a complaint would be filed against the road contractor for the perceived inadequacies in road construction.

The accident claimed the lives of 11 individuals and left many injured when a mini-bus collided with a truck in Dergaon’s Balijan area on January 2.
