PM Modi Expresses Condolences on the Death of Iran President Ebrahim Raisi

National Desk, 20th May: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow and shock over the tragic death of Iran’s President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi on May 20. President Raisi was killed when the helicopter he was traveling in suffered a “hard landing” in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province.

Taking to the microblogging site X, PM Modi wrote, “Deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic demise of Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” He acknowledged Raisi’s significant role in enhancing India-Iran relations, stating, “His contribution to strengthening India-Iran bilateral relationship will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Iran. India stands with Iran in this time of sorrow.”

Earlier reports confirmed by Iranian state media indicated that Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and all other passengers on board the helicopter were also killed in the crash. The helicopter was discovered in a completely burnt state at the crash site, leaving no signs of survival.

This tragic incident has cast a pall over Iran and prompted condolences from leaders around the world, highlighting the profound impact of Raisi’s leadership and the significant loss felt by the international community.
