PM Modi launches India’s 1st Regional Rapid Transit System Corridor to transform regional connectivity in country
National Desk, 20th October: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 20 inaugurated the first corridor of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in Sahibabad of Uttar Pradesh.
He flagged off the RapidX train connecting Sahibabad to the Duhai depot, marking the launch of India’s first RapidX train, named NaMo Bharat.
The priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor is now operational from the Sahibabad RAPIDX station.
This initiative is set to revolutionize regional development by offering high-speed intercity commuting with a frequency of every 15 minutes, which can be increased to every five minutes as needed.
However, the Congress party criticized the Prime Minister for the name change, with General Secretary Jairam Ramesh accusing him of self-obsession.
This launch follows the naming of a cricket stadium in Ahmedabad after PM Modi. The inaugural rail service will cover a 17-km priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor, which is scheduled to open for passengers on October 21.
This priority section will include five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot.
Each RAPIDX train consists of six coaches, with one coach reserved for women, situated next to the premium coach. The seats in the coaches are serially numbered.
Premium coaches feature distinct color-coded seats, provisions for future vending machines, and various commuter-centric amenities, such as reclining seats, coat hooks, magazine holders, and footrests.
To enhance safety, every RRTS station is equipped with platform screen doors (PSDs) that are integrated with RRTS train doors and the signaling system.
