PM Modi Reflects on 50 Years Since Emergency, Urges Vigilance for Democracy
Guwahati, 24th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the eve of June 25th by reflecting on a significant moment in India’s history—the 50th anniversary of the Emergency declared in 1975. In his statement, PM Modi underscored the profound impact of that period on India’s democracy.
“Tomorrow is 25th June, a date that marks 50 years of the blot that was put on the democracy of India,” Modi remarked, recalling the stark events of the Emergency. He emphasized how the Constitution of India was disregarded, leading to severe curtailment of democratic rights and freedoms.
PM Modi urged citizens to renew their commitment to safeguarding the Constitution and democratic traditions of India. “While protecting our Constitution, while protecting the democracy of India and its democratic traditions, the countrymen will take a resolution that no one will dare to do such a thing in India again which was done 50 years ago,” he declared passionately.
He called for a collective resolution towards a vibrant democracy that upholds the aspirations of the common people as envisioned in the Constitution. This, PM Modi asserted, is crucial to ensuring that the lessons from history are learned and that India continues to thrive as a democratic nation.
The statement resonates as a call to action, reminding all Indians of the enduring importance of defending democratic principles and preserving the hard-won freedoms that define the nation’s identity.
