PM Modi to visit USA and Egypt from June 20-25
National Desk, 16 June: PM Modi will pay an official visit to US on the invitation of US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The trip will start in New York, where the prime minister will preside over the International Day of Yoga ceremonies on 21 June at the UN building.
The prime minister will then proceed to Washington, D.C. where he will meet President Biden to carry on their high-level conversation after being given a formal welcome at the White House on June 22. The same evening, the Prime Minister will be honoured at a State Dinner hosted by President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
PM Modi will address a joint meeting of the US Congress at the invitation of US Congressional Leaders on June 22 including Speakers of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy and the Senate, Charles Schumer.
US Vice President Kamala Harris and State Secretary Antony Bilnken will receive the prime minister at a luncheon on June 23.
Prime Minister will have a number of carefully planned contacts with top CEOs, experts and other stakeholders in addition to his formal engagements. He’ll also get to know people from the Indian diaspora.
Then, on June 24–25, PM will fly to Cairo for a state visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt. Egyptian president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi invited the prime minister to visit Egypt and El-Sisi extended that invitation in January 2023 when he attended India’s Republic Day celebrations as the “Chief Guest.” According to the MEA announcement, PM Modi would be visiting Egypt for the first time.
Along visiting his conversations with President Sisi, Prime Minister will also connect with senior members of the Egyptian government, notable Egyptian figures and the Indian community in Egypt. Egypt and India have long-standing commercial and economic ties as well as strong cultural and people-to-people ties.
During the state visit of President Sisi in January 2023, it was agreed to elevate the relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership’.
