PM Modi’s Two-Day Visit to Guwahati to Feature Cultural Celebration and Economic Initiatives, says Assam CM

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on February 20 the details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming two-day visit to Guwahati, set to blend cultural celebration with significant economic initiatives.

PM Modi is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on February 24 at 5 pm, where he will attend a grand cultural performance at Sarusajai Stadium. The event will feature the Jhumur dance, with a staggering 10,000 artists from 27 districts of Assam participating. This includes 5,399 female dancers, 2,175 male dancers, and 2,074 musicians, making it the largest-ever Jhumur performance in the region. The event coincides with the 200th anniversary of Assam’s tea industry, highlighting both the state’s rich cultural heritage and its economic significance.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will also take a keen interest in an accompanying exhibition. Sarma revealed that Modi had specifically requested additional time for the exhibition, planning to visit it immediately after the performance for a 45-minute session, rather than waiting for the following day.

The following day, February 25, PM Modi will inaugurate the Advantage Assam initiative at 10 am, before departing at noon. Minister Ashok Singhal underscored the historic nature of the event, emphasizing the importance of Modi’s presence in celebrating Assam’s culture while fostering economic growth.

The Jhumur Binandini programme, part of the Advantage Assam 2.0 initiative, aims to spotlight the state’s cultural legacy and attract investment opportunities. The event is expected to draw significant dignitaries and industrialists, marking a major cultural-economic milestone for Assam.
