PM Narendra Modi to Visit Bhutan Following Invitation from Bhutanese Counterpart

National Desk, 15th March: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the invitation of his Bhutanese counterpart, Tshering Tobgay, to visit Bhutan next week, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday. The invitation was extended during a meeting between PM Modi and PM Tshering Tobgay in New Delhi on Thursday.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated in a press release, “On behalf of the King of Bhutan, PM Tshering Tobgay extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit Bhutan next week. Prime Minister accepted the invitation.”

PM Tshering Tobgay’s visit to India marks his first official overseas visit since assuming office in February 2024. During the meeting, both leaders discussed progress in various areas of bilateral partnership, including infrastructure development, connectivity, energy, hydropower cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and development cooperation.

The release further highlighted, “They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the special and unique India-Bhutan friendship.” PM Modi conveyed India’s deep appreciation for its role as a reliable and valued partner in Bhutan’s developmental priorities.

It’s worth noting that the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, visited India from November 03-10, 2023, during which discussions on bilateral cooperation and regional and global issues took place between him and PM Modi. The visit underscored the long-standing and exceptional bilateral ties between India and Bhutan, characterized by trust, goodwill, and mutual understanding.
