Police Brutality in Assam’s Jorhat: Woman and Infant Assaulted During Home Raid
Guwahati: A shocking incident of police brutality has come to light from Jorhat district of Assam. A woman and her two-month-old infant were allegedly assaulted by police personnel during a raid at their residence.
The incident occurred on [Date] when a team of police officers from Bhogdoi Police Outpost, led by Sub-Inspector Barnali Gohain, arrived at the woman’s home to conduct an investigation. According to the victim, the police officers, without any provocation, began to vandalize her household items.
The situation escalated when Sub-Inspector Gohain allegedly slapped the woman and kicked her in the stomach, even as she was holding her infant child. The forceful impact reportedly caused the infant to sustain injuries to the head.
The police officer also allegedly interrogated the woman about her connection to a youth named Ankur Das and threatened her with dire consequences if she failed to appear at the police outpost within an hour.
The injured infant was rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) for treatment. Doctors recommended a CT scan to assess the extent of the head injuries.
A formal complaint has been lodged against Sub-Inspector Gohain, and the local authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for stringent action against the erring police officers.
