Agartala: In a significant success against narcotics trafficking, the Tripura Police have seized Yaba tablets with an estimated street value of Rs 10 lakh during a late-night operation in the Sonamura sub-division of Sepahijala district.

The bust occurred near the barbed wire fencing of the Indo-Bangladesh international border, a known hotspot for cross-border smuggling.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Sonamura Police Station was on patrolling duty in the NC Nagar area when they stumbled upon the concealed contraband. The officers found 10,000 Yaba tablets packed meticulously in 50 plastic pouches, which were further secured with cellotape.

The consignment was found abandoned, leading the police to seize it as unclaimed property after completing all necessary legal procedures. Speaking to the press, the Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, Tapas Das, confirmed the seizure and stated that an investigation has been launched to trace the owner of the illicit narcotics.

The operation underscores the heightened vigil of security forces along the international border to curb the menace of drug smuggling that plagues the region.
