Police Commissioner: Guwahati To Soon Get New Traffic System
Guwahati: Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh announced on Tuesday that a new traffic control system would soon be installed in the city.
He said that the Guwahati’s integrated traffic management system (ITMS) will soon be operational.
Singh further informed that the Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL) is the organisation behind the plan.
Digital traffic management systems have been installed in this regard at the city’s main intersections.
Singh said that the installation process is being carried out throughout the city in phases, and software testing is now in progress.
Speaking about it, the Guwahati Police Commissioner said, “The system has been placed along with cameras and sensors. They will keep an eye on traffic flow. CCTV cameras will record all traffic and road activity.”
He added, “One camera will be buried in the ground and will recognise the faces and licence plates of the vehicles.”
Singh added that “if somebody violates traffic laws, the sensor will identify the culprit and automatically an E-Challan would be generated,” issuing a warning to habitual offenders.
