Police Demolish a Cannabis Plantation Worth Rs. 30 lakh

Guwahati: On Wednesday, police decimated a large number of cannabis plants that had bloomed throughout the dense forest in the Veluarchar area. It was anticipated that it have a market value of about Rs 30 lakh.

In several remote areas of the state, ganja production is expanding quickly on government forest. The Sonamura subdivision has emerged as a hub for cannabis farming.

Despite a brief decline in trade following the change in government, it later increased greatly.

Large-scale cannabis cultivation is taking place in Sonamura subdivision in places including Kamalnagar, Ghatighar, Lacharbari, Anandnagar, Matinagar, and Batadola.

Cannabis farmers have spread out across Sonamura Police Station area and planted a significant number of cannabis plants in both public and private spaces.

Based on this information, a continuous operation was carried out for several hours in the Veluarchar region of the Kalamchoura Police station on a plot of land that is approximately 5 hectares on Wednesday from 9 am to 1 pm.

The six tong homes that the farmers utilised as refuge while keeping watch over the ganja garden were also set on fire at the same time.

On Wednesday, the operation was directed by 150 Battalion BSF OC Prashanta Kumar Dey and higher-ups. The operation also included significant participation from the Boxanagar forest department.

Also present to demolish the sizable cannabis garden were SI Supritam Dey, 150th Battalion BSF Ashabari BOP Company Commander Akhilesh Yadav, Boxanagar Forest Department, Police, and TSR Force personnel.
