Police Probe Deaths of Three Assam Youths in Meghalaya, Suspect Criminal Rivalry
Northeast Desk, 18th April: In a somber development, the Meghalaya Police delve into the mysterious demise of three Assam youths, hinting at potential criminal rivalry as the underlying cause. The incident, unfolding in the precincts of East Garo Hills district, appears entwined with ongoing tensions between factions entangled in car theft and cattle rustling.
Per a press communiqué disseminated by the Meghalaya Police, the departed trio—identified as Jamor Ali (35), Noor Ahmed, and Zahidul Islam (25)—were no strangers to the realm of criminal exploits, notably implicated in activities such as car lifting and bovine plunder across various locales of Assam.
The grim saga unfurled on a fateful Wednesday, as the charred remains of the three Assam natives were stumbled upon amidst the labyrinthine foliage of East Garo Hills. Initial investigations hint that the trio set forth on their odyssey late into the evening of April 15, 2024, purportedly recruited by an enigmatic figure for clandestine missions within Meghalaya.
The saga took a darker turn on the dawn of April 16, around 06:30 am, when the kinfolk of the deceased received an eerie call from Jamor Ali, citing a rendezvous in the sylvan enclaves of Garo Hills. However, subsequent attempts at contact proved futile, as the mobile devices of the ill-fated trio remained steadfastly dormant.
The sleuths chanced upon the missing vehicle, bearing the imprints of the youths, ensconced within the sylvan recesses adjacent to the Link Road tethering Rogu Alda hamlet under Rongjeng PS in East Garo Hills District. The charred remnants of the vehicle, accompanied by a freshly excavated cavity nearby, sparked the scrutiny of the Forensic Team and Crime Scene Unit, ushering in an era of relentless investigation.
In the shadow of an Executive Magistrate’s watchful gaze, the charred cadavers were unearthed from the abyss, subsequent to the meticulous excavation of the earthen tomb. Inquest and on-site Post-Mortem procedures ensued, culminating in the dignified repatriation of the bodies to their bereaved kinsfolk post-fulfillment of requisite formalities.
A deeper dive into the annals of their past revealed Zahidul Islam’s entanglement in car pilferage cases besieging Dudhnoi and Krishnai, with a pending litigation looming over him under the aegis of Krishnai Police Station. Similarly, Jamor Ali’s criminal footprint reverberates across cattle rustling cases under the jurisdiction of Matia PS, Assam.
Against the backdrop of these revelations, the Meghalaya Police have formally registered a case under Rongjeng PS Case No. 8(4)2024, invoking sections 302/201/435/34 of the Indian Penal Code, signaling the commencement of an exhaustive pursuit for truth and justice.
