Political parties trying to woo voters in Meghalaya & Nagaland as campaigning to end at 4 PM today
Guwahati: The last day of the campaign for political parties to contact their constituents prior to the Assembly elections is February 25; therefore the campaigning for the Assembly elections in Nagaland and Meghalaya has entered its final phase.
The election campaigns in Nagaland and Meghalaya will end on February 25 at 4 PM.
Senior leaders of political parties have arrived in Nagaland and Meghalaya to campaign, and they are making their last-ditch efforts to win over voters in both of these states.
Only the NDPP and NJP have formed a pre-election alliance in Nagaland for the 14th Nagaland Assembly election which will take place on February 27.
Senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a huge crowd of party members and supporters on February 24 while campaigning for NDPP-BJP candidates.
Together with Modi, other NDPP senior leaders attended the gathering, including state BJP officials and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
During the election campaign, PM Modi attacked the Congress hard, saying they were taking funds intended for the Northeast.
The other parties competing in the election are also intensifying their efforts on the second-to-last day of the campaign.
Political parties are doing everything they can to get votes to Meghalaya. On February 24, PM Modi performed a road tour in Shillong in the morning and then addressed an electoral meeting in Tura of West Garo Hills district.
The Prime Minister gave the people of Meghalaya assurances that the Saffron party is dedicated to the state’s development while he was in the region.
Meanwhile, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) has deployed 199 companies throughout the state on behalf of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure a smooth voting process following the Assembly elections.
”40 companies had been deployed earlier while another 70 companies inducted after Tripura polls,” said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya, FR Kharkongor on February 22.
As per Kharkongor, Meghalaya has two regions and 60 Assembly constituencies, with 36 constituencies in the Khasi, Jaintia Hills region, and 24 constituencies in the Garo Hills region.
Security has been tightened and patrolled throughout Nagaland as well. Police have advised residents to call them if they have any unfavourable information about someone attempting to instigate or plotting violence.
