Polls For Congress President: Shashi Tharoor, KN Tripathi File Nomination

Guwahati: Senior member of the Congress and member of parliament Shashi Tharoor, submitted his application for the position of party president on Friday at the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) office in New Delhi.

Tharoor visited Raj Ghat today to honour Mahatma Gandhi before submitting his nomination.

Mallikarjun Kharge, a former congressman declared that he is also throwing his hat into the ring.

As he departed for the AICC headquarters today, Kharge told the journalists, “I am going to register my nomination (for the Congress president post).”

KN Tripathi, the leader of the Jharkhand Congress also submitted his nomination for the party’s top position while stating that “the choice of party leaders is respected,” according to the national media.

“I come from a farming family. The nation is witnessing the possibility of a farmer’s son, who has served in the Indian Air Force, served as a state minister, and was elected deputy leader of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, running for the position of AICC president”, Tripathi had stated before submitting his nominations today .

Digvijaya Singh and Ashok Gehlot previously announced their withdrawal from the campaign.

This morning, the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh paid Kharge a visit at his home. Singh told reporters, “I informed him that I stand with him and can’t even conceive of fighting against him, I will be his proposer.

At 3 p.m. today, the nomination period for the position of Congress president will expire and the results will be announced on October 19.
