Entertainment: In a groundbreaking moment for space tourism, American singer-songwriter Katy Perry is set to journey to the cosmos today aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft. This mission marks the first time an all-female crew will venture into space, a significant milestone celebrated by both the space industry and advocates for women in STEM.
Ahead of the highly anticipated launch, Katy Perry, known by her mission call sign ‘Feather-2’, offered her millions of Instagram followers a glimpse inside the spaceship capsule. Dressed in a striking blue space uniform emblazoned with her last name, the pop icon exuded excitement as she provided a virtual tour of her temporary extraterrestrial abode.
In the video shared on social media, Perry couldn’t contain her joy, playfully singing “here are the new shepherd,” a nod to Blue Origin’s reusable suborbital rocket system, New Shepard. Her caption further amplified her enthusiasm, stating, “I’ve dreamed of going to space for 15 years and tomorrow that dream becomes a reality.”
The ‘Taking Up Space Crew’, as Perry affectionately dubbed the all-female team, is scheduled for launch at 7 am Central Time. Joining Perry on this extraordinary expedition are a distinguished group of women: renowned journalist Gayle King, philanthropist and partner of Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sánchez, prominent civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, accomplished aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, and acclaimed film producer Kerianne Flynn.
