Pradyut Bordoloi Writes to Union Forest Minister Over Man-Elephant Conflict
Guwahati: Congress member Pradyut Bordoloi from Nagaon Lok Sabha district has written to the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change asking for a plan to end the disputes between people and elephants in Assam.
It should be noted that the man-elephant confrontation has significantly increased during the last few days.
In the letter to Bhupender Yadav, Bordoloi wrote, “I am writing to express my anguish and draw your attention to the rising incidence of human-elephant conflict in my home state of Assam.”
He added, “In the past fortnight itself, we have lost 11 wild elephants in Assam due to varying causes such as poisoning, electrocution and railway accidents. This raises concern about the management of human-wildlife conflict and the safety of our heritage animals.”
He continued by saying that Assam’s natural elephant circulation routes have significantly decreased as a result of the rapid loss of forest cover brought on by haphazard and indiscriminate development projects and industrialization.

The MP continued by saying that time-bound actions on the ground are necessary to prevent this human-wildlife conflict in Assam, which is taking the lives of both humans and elephants.
“I urge the Ministry to take cognizance of this serious issue and take steps to put an effective mitigation strategy in place”, he added.
