Prakash Karat to Inaugurate CPI(M)’s 24th Tripura State Conference
Tripura: Senior Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI(M)) leader Prakash Karat is set to inaugurate the party’s 24th Tripura state conference on December 29. The three-day event, scheduled to take place at the Town Hall in Agartala, will run until December 31, according to CPI(M) Tripura Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury.
Chowdhury revealed that Prakash Karat, along with CPI(M) Politburo member Brinda Karat, will be present for the conference. “To mark the occasion, a rally will be held at Vivekananda ground, where Karat and other senior party leaders will address the gathering,” he told PTI.
The party has reportedly completed preparatory conferences at all organizational levels, including branch, local, divisional, and district committees, paving the way for the state conference. With over 4,000 branches, more than 300 local committees, 24 divisional committees, and eight district committees, CPI(M) has a robust organizational presence in Tripura.
During the conference, party leaders will focus on Tripura’s political, social, and economic landscape, as well as key issues affecting the state’s people. “After thorough deliberation, we will finalize the party’s roadmap for the future,” Chowdhury said.
The CPI(M), which held power in Tripura for 35 years across two phases (1978–1988 and 1993–2018), suffered a significant defeat in the 2018 Assembly elections, losing to the BJP-IPFT coalition. The state conference is expected to be a critical forum for the party to strategize its resurgence in the region.
