Pregnant Jamia student Safoora Zargar granted bail on humanitarian ground
Jamia Millia Islamia’s jailed student Safoora Zargar has been granted bail on humanitarian grounds. She was arrested on charges of being involved in violent activities during the ‘CAA’ movement in north-east Delhi. The student was detained under the Anti-Terrorism Act (UAPA) back then during the movement.
From a humanitarian point of view the government refrained itself from making fresh arguments in the court as Safoora Zargar is pregnant. The Delhi High Court granted bail to the student on a personal deposit of Rs 10,000 by holding a hearing through video conferencing. Dewangana Kalita, an Assamese girl and JNU researcher who is also currently lodged in Tihar Jail on charges of involvement in violent activities in Delhi during the ‘CAA’ movement.
