President Confers Padma Shri Awards on Sarbeswar Basumatary and Drona Bhuyan
Guwahati, 23rd April: In a civil investiture ceremony held in New Delhi on Monday (April 22), President Droupadi Murmu bestowed the prestigious Padma Shri awards upon Sarbeswar Basumatary and Drona Bhuyan, recognizing their exceptional contributions in the fields of Agriculture and Art, respectively.
Sarbeswar Basumatary, hailing from Assam’s Chirang district, was honored for his remarkable achievements in agriculture. Despite limited education, Basumatary’s dedication and perseverance propelled him to become a distinguished farmer. From humble beginnings in Bokakhat, Dhansirimukh, he ventured into cultivation, eventually implementing successful schemes for banana, orange, and pineapple cultivation. His valuable contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the ‘Award of Excellence in Sericulture’ and the ‘Assam Gaurav’ award.
Drona Bhuyan, renowned for his expertise in folk culture, particularly ‘Suknani Ojapali and Deodhani dance,’ was recognized for his exceptional artistic endeavors. Born in Satgharia village of Sipajhar, Darrang district, Bhuyan’s passion for performing arts emerged early in life. His talent and leadership have significantly enriched performing arts in the region, earning him prestigious awards such as “GURU TILE” and “Bishnu Rabha Bota.”
The Padma Shri awards to Basumatary and Bhuyan underscore their invaluable contributions to agriculture and art, respectively, reflecting their dedication and exemplary achievements.
