Northeast Desk, 23rd April: In a prestigious ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President of India Droupadi Murmu bestowed the Padma Shri upon Chittaranjan Debbarma for his remarkable contributions to the field of spiritualism in Tripura.
Born on January 22, 1962, in Barakathal, Sidhai Mohanpur, Debbarma’s spiritual journey began at a young age, instilled with devotion to Shiv Parvati and Radha Krishna. After serving as a Panchayat Secretary, his encounter with the teachings of Sri Sri Santikali Maharaj ignited a profound transformation within him. Embracing sanyas under his Guru’s guidance, Debbarma dedicated himself to Maa Tripurasundari, carrying forward his Guru’s legacy.
The untimely demise of his Guru at the hands of the NLFT terrorist organization marked a pivotal moment for Debbarma, who was entrusted to lead Sri Sri Santikali Ashram. Under his stewardship, the mission expanded to serve the indigenous poor population, despite facing threats and challenges. Debbarma’s initiatives included the establishment of hostels in various locations, offering shelter and education to over 700 children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Presently serving as the Peethadhish of Shantikali Peeth and Ashram in Gomati district, Tripura, Debbarma’s impact extends far beyond spiritual realms. Recognized with numerous awards, including the Sant Eshwar Award, Krishna Chandra Gandhi Award, and Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Smriti Award, his commitment to holistic education led to the founding of Sri Sri Santikali English Medium School in 2019. With 24 ashrams, an old-age home, and mentorship programs across Tripura, his social influence continues to grow.
Debbarma’s steadfast dedication to education and spiritual well-being has sparked a resurgence, transcending boundaries of indigenous and non-indigenous communities. Embracing his Guru’s teachings, he champions cultural heritage, Sanatan Dharma practices, and regional history, emphasizing the importance of perpetuating Sanatanatwa among the people. His legacy serves as a beacon of inspiration for all striving to uphold spiritual values and cultural identity.
