President Droupadi Murmu Acknowledges Women’s Role in Meghalaya’s Growth
Northeast Desk, 16th January: President Droupadi Murmu commended the efforts of the Meghalaya government in promoting women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs) during her visit to Baljek in Jengjal, West Garo Hills.
She emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment in various spheres, praising India’s women for making significant contributions across fields. President Murmu stated that economic self-reliance enhances women’s self-confidence, and the government is working to ensure active participation and economic independence for women.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma highlighted the state’s matrilineal society and the significant role women play in its economic and social progress. The President virtually inaugurated the new Integrated Administrative Complex, Tura, and interacted with SHG members, urging them to inspire and support other women in their journey.
